Rainfall warning in effect

Rain, at times heavy, is expected.

Total rainfall: 40 to 80 mm.

Locations: areas of southwestern Nova Scotia from Shelburne County to Halifax metro and Halifax County West.

Time span: today.

Heavy rain developing along the Atlantic Coast this morning will continue through the day before ending this evening with total rainfall amounts of 40 to 80 mm and the possibility of locally higher amounts near 100 mm. Some areas along the southwest shore have already seen rainfall rates near 25 mm per hour with this system.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
