NS SPCA Adoptable Highlight – Kenmore
We are excited to introduce you to Kenny! This 5-year-old handsome small shepherd mix is ready to start interviewing possible families.
Kenmore loves playing with water from the hose, destroying stuffies and carrying sticks around. He is happy when he is chasing birds, squirrels and even insects, all of which are luckily faster and can escape. Food and especially tasty treats go a long way in making friends with “Kenny”. He enjoys the company of other well socialized dogs and has a play all day energy and brains to boot. He is quick to take on a challenge and figure things out. He is cute, smart and he knows it! He loves to empty the toy box, relocate your shoes and laundry and occasionally chew items not meant for chewing. Luckily, “Kenny” has learned that quiet time in the safety of his kennel is a great place to work on a kong or other appropriate toys while his people are out. Prior to coming into our care, Kenny lived in a home with more than 70 dogs. As you can imagine this impacted his social skills and although extremely sweet, he is lacking confidence.
Kenny is selective when meeting new people and will require someone with patience and experience with timid dogs and willing to let him come to you on his terms. Upon meeting new people, he may bark and/or move away to a safe distance. He has learned to accept, enjoy and even pester for petting and affection and will happily enjoy a gentle scrub while chilling on the couch from people he trusts. He is not comfortable with any kind of restraint or being forced into new situations.
It has taken this handsome guy a lot of patience and an experienced foster to get him to this point, but Kenny will need a home with understanding humans to continue to allow him to flourish on his own terms. He will require a home with no children, but would do OK with a easy going dog friendly dog. He will not be suitable for dog parks, or walking at this time and requires a fenced in backyard.
Kenny is currently in foster care. Please contact us at 468-7877 Option 6 for more information or at http://www.novascotiaspca.ca/contact-us/ to book an appointment to meet him.
