Provincial Parks, Campgrounds Begin Reopening After Hurricane Fiona
————————————————————-
Provincial park campgrounds and day-use parks closed due to hurricane Fiona are gradually reopening as assessments deem them safe and functional.
“We know how important being in nature is to Nova Scotians and our staff are working hard to reopen the provincial parks,” said Natural Resources and Renewables Minister Tory Rushton. “While we work to get the rest up and running safely, we thank everyone for their co-operation and patience.”
The following provincial park campgrounds will reopen on Wednesday September 28, at 2 p.m.:
— Battery, Richmond County
— Blomidon, Kings County
— Ellenwood Lake, Yarmouth County
— Graves Island, Lunenburg County
— Rissers Beach, Lunenburg County
— The Islands, Shelburne County
— Thomas Raddall, Queens County
— Valleyview, Annapolis County
— Whycocomagh, Inverness County
Assessments and power restoration are taking place at Cape Chignecto, Dollar Lake, Caribou, Five Islands and Porters. Updates on these campgrounds will be provided later this week.
Some day-use parks have reopened and the remaining will reopen when it is safe to do so. Updates are available online.
Shubenacadie Wildlife Park remains closed until power is restored and cleanup is completed. All the animals are safe.
