West Hants District RCMP school zone safety initiative

West Hants District RCMP completed school zone traffic enforcement during the first week of school.

From September 5 to 11, 2022, a West Hants RCMP School Safety Resource Officer led a school zone traffic safety initiative in West Hants. The traffic enforcement resulted in:

  • 26 education and enforcement vehicle check spots in school zones;
  • 39 drivers being issued written warnings for offences committed;
  • 13 drivers being issued summary offence tickets for various offences under the Motor Vehicle Act

Remember, when the normal posted speed limit in a school zone is 50 km/h, the speed limit is reduced to a maximum of 30 km/h when children are present.

Road safety continues to be a priority for the Nova Scotia RCMP. Slowing down in school zones ensures the safety of our students.
