HRP’s Operation Fall-Back highlights community safety
As students arrive for a new school year, Halifax Regional Police’s Operation Fall-Back campaign is now underway. During this time, officers will highlight public safety in university neighbourhoods through education and patrols.
Since its launch in 2004, HRP’s Operation Fall-Back campaign has focused on community safety and responding to quality-of-life issues in neighbourhoods surrounding Halifax universities. Complaints at this time of the year have historically included noise complaints, alcohol-related infractions and motor vehicle violations.
“Each year, we have a large influx of students coming to Halifax, so it’s important to bear in mind that community safety is everyone’s responsibility,” said HRP Cst. Mike Zinck, a Community Response Officer in the Central Division. “Be aware at all times that breaking rules has consequences, and our officers will be out there having those conversations, including sharing educational materials. Our approach always begins with education, and we ask everyone to do their part to maintain quality of life.”
Through education, engagement and enforcement measures, Operation Fall-Back aims to reduce complaints and maintain quality-of-life in areas surrounding Halifax universities. The campaign runs throughout the month of September. Citizens are encouraged to report any concerns about quality-of-life issues, such as noise, public impairment and/or safety.
