Heat Warning in effect – Expanded
A period of hot and humid weather is expected. Humidex values of over 36 are forecast for the next 3 days.
Time span: today through Friday.
Maximum temperatures: 29 to 32 degrees Celsius (Humidex reaching 36 to 40), cooler along parts of the coast.
Minimum overnight temperatures: 18 degrees Celsius.
(Update) Locations: Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.
Remarks: High humidity will bring little relief in the overnight hours. Cooler conditions can be expected along parts of the coast during this event. A cold front will pass through the province late on Friday, bringing an expected end to the high heat and humidity. This alert will likely be expanded eastwards for Thursday.
Extreme heat affects everyone.
Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
Outdoor workers should take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool place.
Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
