RCMP charge two men involved in incidents across Nova Scotia
RCMP Northeast Traffic Services – Cape Breton has charged two men with stolen property offences that occurred in Howie Centre, Inverness, and Halifax.
On July 2, 2022, Halifax Regional Police received a report that a red Honda Civic been had been stolen on Robie St. in Halifax, sometime overnight. Over the next five days the Civic would be used in multiple offences across Nova Scotia, including the counties of Kings, East Hants, Inverness and Cape Breton.
On July 7, RCMP Northeast Traffic Services responded to a driving complaint involving the red Honda Civic on Hwy. 4 in Howie Centre. As RCMP officers made their way to the last known location of the Civic, further updates were received of people running from the now disabled vehicle. The vehicle had become disabled due to a flat tire. Two men were located by RCMP and the Cape Breton Regional Police Services (CBRPS). Both men were safely arrested and police found them in possession of stolen property.
Joseph Gage Zachery Antoine, 25 of Wadena, Saskatchewan, has been charged with the following:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000;
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000;
- Theft under $5,000;
- Obstructing a Peace Officer
John Travis MacKinnon, 32 of Truro, has been charged with the following:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000;
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000;
- Theft under $5,000
Antoine has been remanded into custody and will appear in Sydney Provincial Court on July 25, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.
MacKinnon has been remanded into custody and will appear in Sydney Provincial Court on August 8, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.
All incidents involving these men and the stolen vehicle are still being investigated and further charges are anticipated.
