**** RCMP Media Release

As we’ve welcomed warmer weather in recent weeks, Halifax District RCMP have responded to an increase in thefts from motor vehicles.

Wallets, cash, cell phones, sunglasses and clothing are the items most often stolen. The break-ins occur quickly and often go undetected until owners return to their vehicles to find things missing.

While some thieves are more brazen and smash car windows if objects of value are left in plain sight, most people responsible for these crimes of opportunity go from vehicle to vehicle in the hopes of finding unlocked doors or improperly closed trunks.

The simple acts of removing or hiding your property, rolling up your windows and locking your car can save you the grief of being victimized.

We all have a role to play in keeping our communities safe. Notify police immediately if you observe suspicious activity, whether it’s at a beach, outside a trail head or in your neighborhood.
