UPDATE: Kings District RCMP lay charges after second armed robbery in Kings County
Kings District RCMP has laid charges after a second armed robbery occurred at a bank on Central Ave. in Greenwood.
On May 5, at approximately 1:10 p.m., Kings District RCMP responded to a 911 call of an armed robbery that had just occurred at a bank on Commercial St. in Berwick. RCMP officers learned that a man had entered the bank, brandished a hammer and demanded cash from an employee. The man was given a sum of cash and he then fled the bank on foot. No one was injured during the incident. The suspect was not located.
As the investigation into the Berwick incident progressed, investigators determined that a woman had also been involved in the robbery in Berwick.
On May 11, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Kings District RCMP responded to a 911 call of an armed robbery that had just occurred at a bank on Central Ave. in Greenwood. RCMP officers learned that a man had entered the bank, brandished a knife and demanded cash from an employee. The man was given a sum of cash and he then fled in a red vehicle. A description of the man was provided by bank employees. No one was injured during the incident.
An RCMP officer located the vehicle at a home on Kenwood Ave. in Greenwood. While confirming the license plate number of the vehicle, a man exited the home and spoke with the officer. The man was identified as having been the one involved in the robbery and was subsequently arrested. After arresting the man, a woman exited the home and RCMP noted that she was wanted on an arrest warrant. The woman was also taken into custody. Both the man and woman were transported to the Kings District West Detachment in Kingston and were held in custody overnight.
With assistance from the Digby RCMP, a second woman was arrested at a home in Tiverton, Digby County, in relation to the robbery that had occurred in Berwick on May 5. The woman was transported to the Kings District West Detachment in Kingston and was held in custody overnight.
Ryan Taylor Wilband, 42, of Greenwood, has been charged with the following:
- Robbery (2 counts);
- Disguise with Intent (2 counts);
- Theft over $5,000 (2 counts);
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (2 counts);
- Breach of Probation (3 counts).
Raylene Rose Mahaney, 28, of Greenwood, has been charged with the following:
- Robbery;
- Disguise with Intent;
- Theft over $5,000.
Desiree Jerrica Dawn Smith, 30, of Greenwood, who is the subject of an arrest warrant, has also been charged with the following:
- Failure to Comply with Conditions
All three will appear in Kentville Provincial Court today.
The investigations are continuing and are being led by the Kings District RCMP with assistance from Kings District RCMP General Investigation Section, Valley Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit, Annapolis District RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit, Digby RCMP, Digby RCMP General Investigation Section and RCMP Police Dog Services.

Kings District RCMP is investigating after an armed robbery occurred at a bank on Commercial St. in Berwick.

Kings District RCMP members from Kingston, New Minas and Wolfville Detachments, along with members of the Kings District RCMP General Investigation Section, Valley Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit and RCMP Police Dog Services, responded.
Investigators learned that a man had entered the bank, brandished a weapon and demanded cash from an employee. The man was given a sum of cash and he then fled the bank on foot. No one was injured during the incident.
The man was described as white, 5’8” tall and a slim build. The man’s hair was described as dark, with a receding hairline and a buzz cut. The man was wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans.
RCMP officers conducted numerous patrols throughout Berwick, with assistance from RCMP Police Dog Services, however the man was not located.
