Richmond County District RCMP charge woman with impaired driving

Richmond County District RCMP has charged a woman with impaired driving on Hwy. 104 in Louisdale, after she provided breath samples that were over three times the legal limit.

On April 25, 2022, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Richmond County District RCMP received a report of an erratic driver on Hwy. 104 in Louisdale. The vehicle involved was described as a black Volkswagen Passat and was said to be swerving from the shoulder to the centre line. The vehicle then pulled into a parking lot in St. Peter’s.

An RCMP officer attended the area and located the vehicle on Hwy. 104. The officer observed that the vehicle was swerving and driving erratically. A traffic stop was initiated and the officer observed that the driver, a 58-year-old Glace Bay woman, was displaying signs of impairment by alcohol. The woman provided a sample of breath into an Approved Screening Device which resulted in a “fail”. The woman was subsequently arrested for Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and was transported to the St. Peter’s Detachment. The woman provided samples of breath into an Approved Instrument that registered an alcohol concentration of 280 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood (280mg%).

The woman was later released and will appear in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court on June 27, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. She will be facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and Impaired Operation over 80mg%.
