HRFE and HRP salutes its volunteers

**** HRFE Release

It’s National Volunteer Week! We’re proud of our 500 volunteers that support their community in the most challenging circumstances.

They offer support day and night to ensure a safer Halifax Regional Municipality. To learn more about volunteering with Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency visit halifax.ca/firevolunteers

This week we also recognize the many Emergency Management volunteers across HRM. This year’s theme for National Volunteer week is “volunteering is empathy in action”, which is exactly what all of the Emergency Management volunteers do.

Joint Emergency Management (JEM) volunteers coupled with the Community Mobilization Teams arrive in their communities on minutes notice to provide support regardless the time of day during emergency events. Ground Search and Rescue Teams are counted on to find those injured and lost. They continued to support those experiencing homelessness by checking on them each time there was inclement weather this past winter. Amateur radio clubs continue to meet and exercise regularly in order to provide redundancy in HRM’s capabilities should the need arise.

To all of our volunteers, we simply could not respond to community needs without you. You are all the backbone of support from Emergency Management to every community across our large municipality. We thank each and every one of you for your commitment and sacrifices. #volunteersBringHeart.

**** HRP Media Release

HRP salutes its volunteers

As part of National Volunteer Week (April 24-29), Halifax Regional Police (HRP) is recognizing the volunteers who make positive contributions to our community.

We celebrate the citizen volunteers who generously contribute their time and skills to deliver programs ranging from Neighbourhood Watch to victim services, as well as the many HRP employees who give back by volunteering within our service and with community organizations.

“We salute these community-minded people who put their values into action for the benefit of others,” said Chief Dan Kinsella. “Their dedication, adaptability and resourcefulness provided vital support to our community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.”

There are many different volunteer opportunities available at HRP and we are always recruiting volunteers. Visit https://bit.ly/32jccme to find out how you can make a difference in our community.
