RCMP charge man with attempted murder
Eskasoni RCMP has charged a man with attempted murder after a weapon was discharged on Castle Bay Rd. in Eskasoni.
At approximately 3:35 a.m. on April 20, Eskasoni RCMP responded to a report of a weapon being discharged at a vehicle on Castle Bay Rd. in Eskasoni. RCMP officers learned that a white SUV, occupied by three people, was leaving a home on Castle Bay Rd. when a shot was fired at the vehicle, resulting in the rear window shattering. The victims fled the area and no one was injured.
RCMP investigators gathered information and evidence as part of the investigation and they identified the 19-year-old Eskasoni man who shot at the vehicle. RCMP attended a home on Castle Bay Rd. and safely took the man into custody. He was transported to the Eskasoni RCMP Detachment where he was lodged in cells.
RCMP investigators remained at the home and located two replica firearms, a machete and a cellular phone. These items were seized as part of the investigation.
Charlie James Francis, 19, of Eskasoni, has been charged with the following:
- Attempted Murder with a Firearm (3 counts);
- Uttering Threats (3 counts);
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose;
- Using a Firearm in the Commission of an Offence;
- Assault;
- Mischief under $5,000.
Francis has been remanded into custody and will appear in Sydney Provincial Court today.
Pictou County District RCMP charge man with firearms offences
Pictou County District RCMP has charged a man with firearms offences after an incident on East River West Side Rd. in Glencoe.
On April 12, at approximately 4:15 p.m., RCMP responded to a report of a man pointing a firearm at a woman at a home on East River West Side Rd. in Glencoe. Upon arrival at the home, RCMP officers learned that the woman had fled to a neighbouring home and was safe and uninjured. The woman advised that the man had pointed the firearm at her and pulled the trigger, but the firearm wasn’t loaded.
RCMP officers secured the area around the home and attempt to contact the man inside. There was no response received. RCMP officers continued to secure the residence while members of the Nova Scotia RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), and RCMP negotiators made their way to the scene. While waiting for ERT, RCMP officers observed the man exit the rear of the home. RCMP made contact with the man and he was safely taken into custody. The man was transported to the Pictou Detachment where he was held in cells overnight.
RCMP executed a search warrant at the home and seized six handguns, seven shotguns, eight rifles, a crossbow and various gun parts. A WWI bazooka was also seized and turned over to the Royal Canadian Navy’s Fleet Diving Unit Atlantic.
Daren Douglas Loucks, 55, of Glencoe, has been charged with the following:
- Careless Use of Firearm;
- Using a Firearm in the Commission of an Offence;
- Pointing a Firearm;
- Uttering Threats;
- Unsafe Storage of a Firearm.
Loucks was remanded into custody and will appear in Pictou Provincial Court on April 27, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.
