RCMP charge man with Child Pornography offences

The RCMP Provincial Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit has charged a man with accessing and possessing child pornography.

On March 9, the RCMP ICE Unit, assisted by the RCMP Digital Forensic Services Unit and Kings District RCMP, executed a search warrant at a home in New Minas. Investigators were directed to the residence after receiving information from the National Child Exploitation Crime Centre (NCECC) in September 2020.

Derek Morris Campbell, 46, of New Minas, was safely arrested at the home. He has been charged with Accessing Child Pornography and Possession of Child Pornography. Campbell was released on a number of strict conditions and will appear in Kentville Provincial Court on June 29, 2022, at 9:30 a.m.

The Nova Scotia RCMP is reaching out to the public to offer support and encourage anyone who may have additional information to contact your local police or RCMP Detachment. The Nova Scotia RCMP can be contacted at 1-800-803-7267.

In Nova Scotia it is mandatory for citizens to report suspected child pornography. This means that anyone who encounters child pornography material or recordings must report it to the police. Failing to report suspicious activity and materials could result in penalties similar to failure to report child abuse set out in the Child and Family Services Act. The RCMP encourages citizens to be a voice for children who are victims of sexual exploitation by reporting any suspected offences to your local police or by using Canada’s National tipline for reporting online sexual exploitation of children at www.cybertip.ca.
