RCMP assist in rescue of hiker

Ingonish Beach RCMP assisted Parks Canada and EHS in rescuing a hiker from the Franey Trail in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

On November 14, at approximately 2 p.m., police received a request for assistance from Parks Canada and EHS in relation to an injured hiker on the Franey Trail in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Police learned that a 57-year-old woman became injured while hiking the trail and needed to be rescued.

A member of the Ingonish Beach RCMP used an RCMP ATV and entered the trail along with Parks Canada employees on Parks Canada ATVs. The member was able to get partway up the trail and hiked the remainder of the way to the injured hiker. The hiker was loaded onto a back board where she was then carried down to the ATVs. The hiker was driven out of the trail and transferred to paramedics who took over medical care.

The RCMP wishes the hiker well in her recovery.
