RCMP responds to serious collision

Halifax District RCMP is investigating after a motor vehicle collision on Highway 7 in Westphal.

At approximately 4:45 p.m. yesterday, police were notified of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 7 in Westphal. Police, fire and EHS attended the scene and found that a motorcycle had been travelling east on Highway 7 when it ran into the back of vehicle that was stopped in traffic waiting to turn left onto a side road.

The motorcycle rider, a 16-year-old male, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance. The occupant of the vehicle struck by the motorcycle was uninjured. A third vehicle became involved in the collision immediately after it occurred and the occupant of the third vehicle was also uninjured.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Highway 7 was shutdown for a number of hours but has since reopened.
