RCMP arrests impaired driver with child in vehicle

 

A 38-year-old woman from Garlands Crossing faces impaired driving charges after police responded to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 1 in Garlands Crossing. A child was located inside the vehicle.

On June 9, at 5 p.m., West Hants RCMP received a call of a single-vehicle collision on Highway 1. Upon arrival, the members located the driver and a child near the vehicle. The driver showed signs of impairment, failed a roadside screening test and was arrested. The child was not injured and was placed in the care of a responsible person. The driver was taken to the West Hants RCMP detachment, where she provided samples of her breath which were more than four times the legal limit. The driver was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Windsor Provincial Court on July 27 at 10 a.m. to face charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance, Operating a Conveyance with a Blood Alcohol Concentration Over 80 mg% and Fail to Provide Necessities – Endanger Life.

If you drive impaired, you put yourself and others at risk. There is always an alternative to driving while impaired. The RCMP wants to encourage everyone to report suspected impaired drivers. The RCMP can be contacted anywhere in Nova Scotia by calling 1-800-803-RCMP. If it is an emergency, call 911, and be prepared to provide the following information about the vehicle and/or the driver:
• license plate number
• make and model of the vehicle
• description of the driver
• location of the vehicle and direction of travel

The investigation is ongoing.
