Weekly Traffic Advisories (Mar 30th)

Note:  Each week the local listings are expanded and updated.  During the week new and updated tasks are added.  Every week a new post is started with fresh info but previous posts may be still valid.

HALIFAX REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY: Dillmans Bridge, Meaghers Grant

Dillmans Bridge, on Wyse Road in Meaghers Grant, will be closed until further notice. A detour is available via Old Guysborough Road. Signs are in place.

HALIFAX REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY: Peggys Point Road, Peggy’s Cove

Peggys Point Road, from the Visitor Information Centre west for about one kilometre, will be reduced to one lane until Wednesday, June 30.

Work to take place from sunrise to sunset.

HANTS COUNTY: Highway 102, Lantz

A temporary detour is in place on Highway 102 north of Exit 8, Elmsdale, for the replacement of the Nine Mile River bridges, northbound and southbound. This work is part of ongoing construction for the new Lantz Interchange and Connector Road.

The detour has a reduced speed limit of 80 kilometres an hour and is expected to be in place until mid-summer.

The Lantz Interchange and Connector Road is expected to be complete and open to traffic by fall.

LUNENBURG COUNTY: Highway 103

Highway 103, between Exit 9 and 10, will have alternating lane closures for road work until Wednesday, June 30.

Work takes place from sunrise to sunset.

RICHMOND COUNTY: Highway 104, Port Hawkesbury

Highway 104, Port Hawkesbury, 880 metres west of Exit 44, will be reduced for about 2.7 kilometres westerly to one lane for paving until Saturday, July 31.

Traffic control will be on site. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

LUNENBURG COUNTY: Highway 103, Camperdown School Road, Camperdown

Highway 103, from Camperdown School Road, Camperdown, to Queens County line, will have alternating lane closures for repaving and upgrading from Monday, May 3, until Saturday, July 31.

Traffic controls consist of stop and go traffic. Work takes place from sunrise to sunset.

PICTOU COUNTY: Highway 104, Eastbound Lanes

Highway 104, eastbound lanes between Exit 20 and 21, will be reduced to one lane for road work until Tuesday, August 31.

Work takes place from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

ANTIGONISH COUNTY: Trunk 4, Broadway/Highway 104 Overpass

Due to ongoing twinning on Highway 104, there will be a road closure on Trunk 4 at Broadway/Highway 104 Overpass until Monday, May 17. Local traffic can access Broadway via Exit 27 or Exit 29 from Highway 104.

Signs and traffic control will be in place.

Road Construction – Portland Hills Drive

Location:​ Portland Hills Drive, between Portland Estates Boulevard and Hillspire Grove

Date:​ Friday, May 7 to Friday, June 18

Time: Weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Work details: Installation of concrete curb bumps with revisions to the adjacent sidewalk.​

Traffic impact: Lane drops will be in place while work is underway, as well as occasional stop-and-go traffic. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.​

Public Service Announcement
Street Closure – Cumberland Drive

Location: Cumberland Drive, from Cole Harbour Road to Hampton Green

Date: Monday, May 10 at 7 a.m. to Sunday, June 6 at 7 p.m.

Time: 24 hours per day

Work details: Installation of new traffic signal bases, catch basin installations, relocation of a gas main, full depth asphalt removal and gravel replacement. This work is part of the Forest Hills Parkway Active Transportation & Street Improvement Project.

Traffic impact:​ This closure will be in place 24 hours per day from Monday, May 10 to Sunday, June 6. Access to residences, churches and businesses on Cumberland Drive can be accessed from Hampton Green. Marked detours and barricades will be in place while work is underway. ​

The east sidewalk on Cumberland Drive, from Cole Harbour Road to Hampton Green, will also be closed while work is underway. Pedestrian traffic will be directed around the work site as necessary.​

Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.​ ​

Road Construction – Washmill Lake Drive

Location:​ Washmill Lake Drive between Bently and Chain Lake drives

Date:​ Friday, May 7

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ​

Work details:​ This work is for pavement rehabilitation.

Traffic impact: Lane drops will be in place while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.​

Traffic Delay – Barrington Street

Location: Barrington Street, directly underneath the A. Murray MacKay Bridge

Date: Friday, May 7

Time: Crews will be on-site from 9.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.

Work details: This work is being conducted to carry out inspection on expansion joint under the A. Murray MacKay Bridge.

Traffic impact: A lane drop will be in place, with traffic personnel on-site. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.​ ​

Road Construction – Wright Avenue

Location: Wright Avenue, between Burnside Drive and Wilkinson Avenue

Date:​ Wednesday, May 5 (weather permitting)

Time: Noon to 4 p.m.​

Work details: This work is for pavement rehabilitation

Traffic impact: Lane drops will be in place while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.​

Road Construction – Burnside Drive

Location: ​ Burnside Drive between Commodore Drive and Akerley Boulevard

Date: Tuesday, May 4 and Wednesday, May 5 (weather permitting)

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day

Work details: Crack sealing road repairs

Traffic impact: Lane drops will be in place while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible

Traffic Delay – Alderney Drive and Portland Street

Location: Alderney Drive and Portland Street

Date: Monday, May 3, Tuesday, May 4, and Friday, May 7

Time: Crews will be on site from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day

Work details: Nova Scotia Power is replacing underground cables in the downtown Dartmouth area.

Traffic impact: Portland Street will require a one-way street closure at times to facilitate this work. There will be various lane closures on Alderney Drive while work is underway. Local street access will be maintained at all times via marked detours. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes whenever possible.​

Sidewalk closure on the south-east side of Portland Street will be in place between Alderney Drive & Prince Street. Traffic control personnel will be on site to direct pedestrian traffic around the work site as necessary.

Road Construction – Bedford Highway and Flamingo Drive

Location: Intersection of Bedford Highway and Flamingo Drive

Date: Saturday, May 1

Time: Crews will be on site from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Work details: This work is related to the installation of a new concrete curb and gutter

Traffic impact: The traffic signals at the intersection of Bedford Highway and Flamingo Drive will be shut down during this work. Traffic control personnel will be in place to direct motorists, cyclists and pedestrians around the work site.​

Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.​

Traffic Delay – 289 Portland Street

Location: 289 Portland Street

Date: Saturday, May 1

Time: Crews will be on-site from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Work details: This work is being conducted by Arbor Plant Health Care to remove trees.

Traffic impact: Traffic personnel will be on site, with one lane of traffic maintained. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.​

Traffic Delay – 1739 Bedford Highway, between Oakmount Drive and Highway 101/102 Interchange

Location: 1739 Bedford Highway, between Oakmount Drive and Highway 101/102 Interchange

Date: Monday, May 3 to Monday, May 31

Time: Crews will be on site from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays

Work details: The street will be excavated for capping underground service infrastructure.

Traffic impact: Lane drops will be in place while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Road Closure & Traffic Delays – Almon Street

Location: Almon Street, between Robie and Gladstone streets

Date: Saturday, May 1 to Sunday, May 9

Time: Crews will be on site from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day

Work details: This work is to facilitate the installation of underground infrastructure

Traffic impact: Almon Street, between Robie and Gladstone streets, will be closed on May 1, 2, 8 and 9 as crews install underground infrastructure. Motorists can also expect intermittent delays on this section of Almon Street from Monday, May 3 to Friday, May 7. Local access will be maintained at all times. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes whenever possible.

There is an existing sidewalk closure on the south side of Almon Street in place due to building construction.

Construction during COVID-19:​ Construction crews will strive to maintain physical distancing measures, however, residents may see workers within two metres of each other while completing certain tasks which aligns with the exemptions outlined in the Provincial Health Order. If approaching construction crews, residents are asked to maintain at least two metres of physical distancing.
