General Intrests

**** Kentville Police Release

Kentville Police are warning the public about an online scam.

The contact is made while victim is online. A message pops up on the screen which appears is from Microsoft. The message indicated your banking information is compromised and to call the phone number on the screen.

When you call the number, you are told your banking information has been compromised and that to secure your money, you need to buy gift cards as security, return home and give the card number and PIN to the Microsoft representative.

Due to store security the scammers coach the victims to tell store staff you are buying these for gifts for family. They are also told not to use the phone to call anyone or tell anyone.

Our recent victim did this multiple times over three days and each time called and provided this information. As she willingly bought these cards and provided the information to the scammers, she was unable to retrieve any of her money lost due to the nature of the fraud.
