Police issue 32 tickets for driving offences
Halifax Regional Police issued 32 tickets for motor vehicle-related offences throughout the region yesterday.
The HRP Traffic Unit was monitoring traffic on many of our roadways yesterday. Throughout the day, officers issued 32 summary offence tickets: eight for speeding; and 24 for other offences including no insurance, expired plates, using a cell phone, invalid safety inspections and failing to slow down and/or move over for stopped emergency vehicles with lights flashing.
If you see an emergency vehicle pulled over with its lights flashing:
- Slow down to 60 km/h or obey the speed limit if it’s lower than 60 km/h.
- If you’re on a road with two or more lanes in your direction, you must also move into another lane farther away from the stopped emergency vehicle if you can do so safely.
- You don’t need to slow down or move over if the vehicle is on the other side of the median on a divided highway.
Officers also spent time in the Kearney Lake Road/Castle Hill Drive area in Halifax as well as the Portland Street/Settle Street area in Dartmouth in relation to community concerns.
In a continued effort to address traffic safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, our officers focus on speed enforcement. We all have a role to play in keeping our roads safe.
