RCMP rescue dog in distress from vehicle

Halifax District RCMP recently rescued a dog in distress from a vehicle in Musquodoboit Harbour.

On March 24, at 3 p.m., members of the Musquodoboit Harbour Detachment were called to attend a parking lot on Highway 7 for a dog in distress. Upon arrival, the members noticed a large black Bernese Mountain Dog in a small black vehicle. It is believed that the dog had been in the vehicle for at least 45 minutes, and it was panting heavily. The members attempted to locate the owner of the vehicle without success. A window of the vehicle was forced open, and the dog was removed from the vehicle. The dog was taken to the RCMP Detachment in Musquodoboit Harbour where the owner retrieved his dog.

The RCMP would like to remind the public not to leave their dogs in vehicles for any extended period of time. The temperature outside that day was 15 degrees Celsius and sunny, and car windows create a greenhouse effect, which can cause temperatures inside the car to rise quickly. It can take as little as 20 minutes for a dog left in a hot car to overheat and go into medical distress.
