Municipal boards and committees recruitment now underway

The Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking applications for a variety of municipal boards, committees, and commissions.​ Online applications will be open until Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at 11:59 p.m.

Municipal boards, committees, and commissions consist of councillors, residents, and industry representatives.​ These groups provide recommendations to Regional Council, community council, or standing committees, and serve as an important part of decision-making process.

The municipality is seeking board, committee and commission members that are reflective and inclusive of residents from the Halifax Regional Municipality.​ Meeting schedules and formats will vary between committees, please consult halifax.ca/serve for details on each committee.

The following opportunities are currently open:

Please note: some boards are seeking “resident” positions, meaning anyone can apply.​ Some boards are recruiting specific designations – this is done because Regional Council has determined that specific expertise, background, or experience is required to achieve the mandate.

Internal boards:

  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Board of Police Commissioners: positions for two residents of the Halifax Regional Municipality
  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Design Advisory Committee: positions for two landscape architects
  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Design Review Committee: positions for two architects and two landscape architects

External boards:

  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Halifax Harbour Bridges: position for one resident of the Halifax Regional Municipality
  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Halifax Port Authority Board of Directors: position for one professional representative

The municipality takes the health and safety of its applicants and employees seriously.​ Where possible, recruitment and interviews will be done by way of phone, video conference, or other virtual means to assist with and encourage social distancing.

Regional Council recognizes that the municipality is best served by boards, committees and commissions whose membership reflects the diverse communities they serve.​ We encourage applications from qualified African Nova Scotians, racially visible persons, women in non-traditional positions, persons with disabilities, persons of the LGBTQ+ community, and Aboriginal persons. Applicants are encouraged to self-identify.
