Heinz by Nature – Lockdown Lovebaby Collection Baby Onesies recalled due to Chemical Hazard
Common name: Heinz by Nature – Lockdown Lovebaby Collection Baby Onesies
Product description: This recall involves Heinz by Nature – Lockdown Lovebaby Collection Baby Onesies distributed to consumers as part of a promotion. The various white onesie designs were packaged in a carton with Heinz by Nature pouch, bib, and a paper pamphlet. The recalled onesies were sized for infants 0-3 months old. The following texts appear on the various white onesies:
- My parents didn’t wear protective coverings in March 2020
- I was my parents quarantine craft project
- While you were hoarding TP my parents were making me
- Mom and dad had to work from home so they got right down to business
- My parents couldn’t have friends over so they had me instead
- My parents put more than sourdough
Hazard identified: The onesies contain levels of lead and phthalates in excess of allowable limits and may pose a risk of exposure to children. Studies suggest that certain phthalates, including DEHP, may cause reproductive and developmental abnormalities in young children when soft vinyl products containing phthalates are sucked or chewed for extended periods. Lead is toxic if ingested, especially to children. A range of serious health effects have been associated with exposure to lead including anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, serious brain injury, convulsions, coma, as well as effects related to the liver, kidneys, heart and immune system. In extreme cases, there have been deaths. Since lead builds up in the body, ongoing exposure to even very small amounts of lead can result in large amounts of lead being present in the body.
