Two men fined for violating Health Protection Act

Halifax District RCMP have charged two men for failing to self isolate following a recent checkpoint in Sheet Harbour.

At approximately 3:20 p.m. on January 28, Halifax District RCMP were conducting a checkpoint at the intersection of Pool Rd. and Church Point Rd. on Highway 7 when a vehicle with expired plates pulled up.

As members checked the status of the vehicle carrying a driver and passenger, they discovered the passenger had recently travelled outside of Canada and was on a mandatory self-isolation order until February 4. The passenger was staying with the driver. Both men were charged under 71(b) of the Health Protection Act for Failure To Remain In Self-Quarantine or Self-Isolation For 14 Days. They were each fined $1,000.

RCMP is reminding everyone to follow all Public Health orders, Provincial legislation and Town bylaws. We all need to do our part to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The RCMP thanks Nova Scotians for their continued support and to the vast majority who are adhering to the directives outlined by the provincial government.
