Official statement from the Halifax Professional Fire Fighters regarding the 3rd alarm fire on Agricola Street overnight
Our members battled extreme cold and challenging conditions while also responding to multiple other emergencies throughout the shift.
Halifax Professional Fire Fighters responded to a 3rd alarm structure fire on Agricola Street overnight, requiring a significant amount of resources. At its peak, 44 fire fighters were on
scene, accounting for nearly half of the available daily minimum staffing across our 5,700 square kilometer municipality—which stretches from Sheet Harbour to Tantallon.
We recognize and appreciate the investments Halifax Regional Council has made in fire service staffing over the past eight years.
These investments have strengthened our response
capabilities, and we are grateful for their continued support in building a more resilient fire service.
We must continue to add staff and response capabilities to meet the demands of our growing city.
This fire was one of several major incidents over the last 24 hours, including another structure fire and multiple hazardous materials calls, in addition to regular emergency responses.
Fire fighters battled through bitter cold, contending with freezing handlines, frozen air packs, and difficult access to the structure, all while working tirelessly to protect lives and property.
Our members remain committed to serving Halifax with dedication and professionalism. We
thank them for their hard work last night and every day, always showing up when it matters most.
