Halifax Citadel Re-Opened Today
Halifax Citadel National Historic Site has re-opened at noon today, Wednesday, September 23, as a result of an on-site safety review by Parks Canada. The temporary closure yesterday was based on the potential for severe weather from Hurricane Teddy.
Visitor safety is of the utmost importance for Parks Canada. These closures were necessary to ensure the safety of our visitors, partners, and Parks Canada team.
Provincial Parks Closed During Hurricane Teddy

A number of provincial campgrounds, day-use parks and all provincial beaches along the South and Eastern shores will close at noon today, Sept. 22, due to severe weather conditions expected with Hurricane Teddy. Shubenacadie Wildlife Park will also close at 3 p.m. today. Closures may be extended to other parks if the storm track changes or if there is significant damage.
Full refunds will be given for reservations affected by the closure. All campers with reservations will be contacted by the park reservation agency to arrange refunds. Campers may consider rebooking a campsite for another day.
The plan is to reopen Shubenacadie Wildlife Park Wednesday, Sept. 23 and the other parks Thursday, Sept 24, at noon. However, they will be evaluated for damage and safety concerns before being reopened. Public notice of reopenings will be provided online at parks.novascotia.ca and social media.
“We are actively preparing for significant storm conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday. As always, our priority is the safety of visitors and staff at all provincial park properties,” said Lands and Forestry Minister Iain Rankin.

CLOSED DUE TO POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE WEATHER
Parks Canada advises that Halifax Citadel National Historic Site will be closed as of Tuesday, September 22, until further notice, based on current information from the Canadian Hurricane Centre about the potential for severe weather from Hurricane Teddy.
As of the publication of this Information Bulletin on Monday, September 21, 2020, the following other Parks Canada sites in Mainland Nova Scotia are maintaining their normal business hours:
Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site
Kejimkujik Seaside National Park
Fort Anne National Historic Site
Grand-Pré National Historic Site
Should there be any changes to the aforementioned places, we will provide an update.
Visitor safety is of the utmost importance for Parks Canada. This closure will remain in place until conditions are safe, and will be re-assessed as the situation progresses. Parks Canada is also carefully monitoring any possible impacts on other national parks and national historic sites in the region. Visitors are asked to contact sites directly before visiting.
