RCMP charge man with impaired driving causing death after fatal collision in Mavillette
Meteghan RCMP Detachment has charged a man with impaired driving offences, including two counts of Impaired Driving Causing Death, after investigating a fatal collision in Mavillette.
On October 6, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Meteghan RCMP, fire services, and EHS responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 1. Officers learned that a Pontiac G5 veered out of its lane and collided with a Hyundai Kona travelling in the opposite direction.
One of the passengers in the Hyundai, a 77-year-old Saint Alphonse woman, was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver and another passenger in the Kona were transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries; the passenger later died in hospital. Another passenger suffered serious injuries.
At the time of the collision, the driver of the Pontiac showed signs of impairment by alcohol. He was arrested and transported to a local hospital where blood samples were obtained for analysis.
On December 9, Meteghan RCMP arrested 34-year-old Vincent Alphonse Comeau of Saint Alphonse. He faces the following charges:
- Impaired Driving Causing Death (two counts)
- Dangerous Driving Causing Death (two counts)
- Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm
- Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm
- Impaired Driving over .80
- Impaired Driving
Comeau was released by the courts on conditions and will appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court on February 18.
