Weekly Traffic Advisories (8 Nov)

Traffic Delay – Lucasville Road

Location: Lucasville Road at the bridge over the Sackville River

Date: Monday, May 6 until early 2025

Time: 24/7

Work details: This work is to facilitate the rehabilitation of the Lucasville Bridge. This is in support of the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: Temporary traffic signals will be installed to control traffic flow through the work site as work progresses on the Lucasville Bridge rehabilitation project. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to take alternative routes whenever possible.

Road Closure – Hornes Road Bridge

Location: Hornes Road Bridge, between Cow Bay Road and Caldwell Road

Date: July 2, 2024 to November 2024

Time: 24/7

Work details: This closure is to facilitate the rebuilding of the bridge.

Traffic impact: A signed detour will be in place.

Halifax Transit will be re-routed and the following stops will be closed:

Hornes Road at civic 12 (2221)

Hornes Road at civic 42 (2222)

Hornes Road at civic 74 (2223)

Hornes Road after Cow Bay Road (7147)

Caldwell Road after Hornes Road (8663)

Hornes road after Scott Drive (8662)

Road Closure – Highway 7

Location: Highway 7 between Glasgow Road and Upper Governor Street

Date: Monday, Nov. 4 to Monday, Nov. 18

Time: 24/7

Work details: This is to facilitate the replacement of two culverts that run beneath Highway 7.

Traffic impact: A marked detour will be in place during this work. Local access will be maintained on either side of the closed section of Highway 7. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes where possible.

Halifax Transit impacts: Halifax Transit users will be significantly impacted as Route 401 will detour to Upper Governor Street and North Preston Road. In addition, all bus stops on Highway 7 between Upper Governor Street and Hwy 107, will temporarily close while construction is underway.

The following bus stops will not be serviced until construction is complete:

Brooks Drive at East Preston Recreation Centre (8929)

Brooks Drive opposite East Preston Recreation Centre (8769)

Highway 7 after civic 1776 (8767)

Highway 7 after Upper Governor Street (8930)

Highway 7 at civic 1799 (8931)

Highway 7 before Lower Governor Street (8768)

Traffic Delay – Windsor Street

Location: Windsor Street, between Connaught Avenue and Maxwell Avenue

Date: Friday, Nov. 15

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: This is required for road repairs, which supports the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: Lane drops will be in place from Connaught Avenue to Connolly Street while work is underway. Stop-and-go traffic will be in place from Connolly Street to Maxwell Avenue. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes wherever possible.

Traffic Delay – Joseph Howe Drive

Location: Joseph Howe Drive, between Bayers Road and Mumford Road

Date: Thursday, Nov. 14

Time: Work will begin immediately and is expected to continue through peak traffic hours late this afternoon and evening until complete.

Work details: This is required for urgent road repairs.

Traffic impact: Lane drops will be in place while work is underway, and two-way traffic will be maintained in both directions. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes wherever possible.

Road Closure – Pinecrest Drive

Location: Pinecrest Drive, from Brule Street to Crystal Drive

Date: Wednesday, Nov. 13

Time: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Work details: This work is for paving, which supports the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: A signed detour will be in place while work is underway. Traffic control personnel will be on-site to assist local traffic. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes wherever possible.

Traffic Delay – Intersection of Victoria and Albro Lake roads

Location: Intersection of Victoria and Albro Lake roads

Date: Friday, Nov. 8 to Sunday, Nov. 10

Time: Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. to Sunday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m.

Work details: This work is needed to replace transmission line poles.

Traffic impact: Signal lights at the intersection of Victoria and Albro Lake roads will not be operational while work is underway. Stop-and-go traffic control will be in place to guide motorists and pedestrians through the work area. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes wherever possible.

Road Re-opening – Barrington Street

Location: Barrington Street from Upper Water to Duke streets

Date: Monday, Nov. 25, starting at 5 a.m.

Time: 24/7

Work details: This closure was in place to facilitate the mass excavation and final configuration of Barrington Street in support of the Cogswell District project.

Traffic impact: Traffic will travel along Barrington Street between Upper Water Street and Duke Street. There will be one lane northbound and two lanes southbound maintained during peak hours. Motorists should expect delays.

Transit impact: Stops 5 and 84 located on Albemarle Street will be relocated to a temporary bay on the west side of Barrington Street north of Duke Street, in front of Scotia Square.

Road Closure – Cogswell Street

Location: Cogswell Street from Albemarle to Barrington streets

Date: Monday, Nov. 25, starting at 5 a.m.

Time: 24/7

Work details: This closure is to facilitate the mass excavation and final configuration of Cogswell Street at the Barrington Street intersection. This work is in support of the Cogswell District project.

Traffic impact: Traffic heading southbound from the new roundabout will have the option to travel southbound on a partially reopened Barrington Street or continue on Upper Water Street. Access to/from Albemarle Street will be via Brunswick Street and Duke Street. Northbound traffic will be able to travel through the area on either Upper Water Street or Barrington Street from Duke Street. Motorists should expect delays and use alternative routes.

Transit impact: Stops 5 and 84 located on Albemarle Street will be relocated to a temporary bay on the west side of Barrington Street north of Duke Street, in front of Scotia Square.

Traffic Delay – South Park Street

Location: 1130 South Park Street

Date: Tuesday, Nov. 12 and Wednesday, Nov. 13

Time: 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Work details: This is to facilitate the installation of a natural gas pipeline, as well as road repairs.

Traffic impact: One lane of traffic will be maintained while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes wherever possible.

Road Closure – Crichton Avenue

Location: Crichton Avenue, from Ochterloney to Dahlia streets

Date: Monday, Nov. 11

Time: 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.

Work details: This closure is to accommodate a Remembrance Day ceremony in the area.

Traffic impact: Personnel will be in place to help direct local traffic. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes wherever possible.

Location: Princess Margaret Boulevard, from Windmill Road to Highway 111 Halifax bound on ramp

Date: Monday, Nov. 4 to Monday, Nov. 18

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: This work includes sidewalk and asphalt repair, in support of the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: Stop-and-go traffic will be in place while work is underway. Traffic personnel will be in place to guide motorists through the work area. Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Traffic Delay – Larry Uteck Boulevard

Location: Larry Uteck Boulevard between Bluewater Road and Blue Mountain Drive

Date: Thursday, Oct. 31 to Friday, Nov. 15 (weekdays only)

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: This work is required for gas main installation and road repairs.

Traffic impact: One-way traffic will be maintained while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Road Closure – Spring Avenue

Location: Spring Avenue, from Mount Edward Road to Belle Vista Drive

Date:  Saturday, Nov. 2

Time: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Work details: This work is for pavement maintenance, which supports the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: This will be a “rolling closure,” in that the closed section of the roadway will move with the construction crew as they proceed through the work area. Local traffic and emergency vehicle access will be maintained. Signed detours and traffic personnel will be in place to guide motorists through the work area. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Traffic Delay – St. Margarets Bay Road

Location: St. Margarets Bay Road, from Raines Mill Road to Beechville Park Drive

Date: Monday, Oct. 21 to Friday, Nov. 15

Time:  9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily (weekdays only)

Work details: This work includes asphalt repair in support of the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: Stop-and-go traffic will be in place while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to take alternative routes whenever possible.

Date: Monday, Nov. 4 to Monday, Nov. 18

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Date:  Thursday, Nov. 7 to Friday, Nov. 22

Time: 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Work details: This work includes road repair in support of the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: A lane drop will be in place while work is underway. Motorists travelling west will remain on Chebucto Road. Motorists travelling east will be detoured onto North Street. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes where possible.
