2024 Atlantic hurricane season outlook update

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center has updated its mid-season hurricane outlook, which is similar to the initial outlook issued in May

The notably active 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, marked by storms having significant and deadly impacts, began early and violently with Hurricane Beryl, the earliest Category 5 Atlantic hurricane on record. Given the current atmospheric and oceanic conditions, driven by warmer-than-average sea surface temperatures, reduced vertical wind shear, weakened tropical Atlantic trade winds, and a strengthened West African monsoon, the remainder of the season could follow suit and is expected to be exceptionally active. In fact, there is a possibility that the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season could rank among the busiest on record. We encourage everyone to stay informed by knowing where to access the latest weather forecasts and alerts.
