Richmond County District RCMP charge a man with Attempt to Commit Murder

A man has been charged with Attempt to Commit Murder following a serious incident in Rockdale.

On July 29, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Richmond County District RCMP responded to an altercation at a home near Hwy. 247.

RCMP officers learned that following the altercation outside of the residence, a man threatened and assaulted a woman who was known to him with a knife.

The 33-year-old victim from Rockdale suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by EHS.

At the home, officers safely located and arrested 27-year-old Patrick Paul Taylor of L’Ardoise. He was charged with:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder
  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Uttering Threats
  • Mischief
  • Failure to Comply with an Undertaking

Taylor appeared in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court and was remanded into custody. He will return to court on August 26 at 9:30 a.m.

Nova Scotia RCMP Commercial Crime Section charge man in insurance fraud

Nova Scotia RCMP Commercial Crime Section has charged a man after an investigation into a major insurance fraud.

On May 9, 2023, East Hants District RCMP received information indicating that trustees of a local ironworkers’ union had been defrauded through the submission of false health benefit claims.

The investigation was taken over by the Nova Scotia RCMP Commercial Crime Section, and assisted by the East Hants District RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU).

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that a member of the union had submitted over 300 false insurance claims over a seven-month period in 2022.

On July 19, 2024, Thomas Leroy Harvie, 36, of Tennecape, was formally charged with two counts of Fraud Over $5,000.

He will appear in Shubenacadie Provincial Court on September 5, 2024 at 9:30 am.
