Police lay additional charges and continue to investigate school threats cases
Police have charged a fifth youth in relation to recent incidents where threats were made toward schools in the region.
Yesterday, investigators from the General Investigation Section of the Criminal Investigation Division charged a 16-year-old youth in relation to a threats complaint that occurred at Citadel High School on May 2. The youth is scheduled to appear in Halifax Youth Justice Court at a later date to face charges of mischief and uttering threats.
Since April 1, Halifax Regional Police and the RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment received 26 separate incidents where messages have been left in schools throughout the region referring to explosive devices in the buildings. On each occasion police attended the school and checked the premises, with the assistance of school officials, and were unable to locate safety concerns.
Investigators have previously charged four other youths in relation to three other incidents at schools in the region. These youths are also scheduled to appear in Halifax Youth Justice Court at a later date to face charges of mischief and uttering threats.
The investigations are ongoing and are being led by members of the Integrated General Investigation Section of the Criminal Investigation Division and further charges are anticipated.
