Police investigating fatal shooting in North Preston
RCMP/HRP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred last night in North Preston.
On May 8, at approximately 11:48 p.m., RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment received a report that a man had been shot on Downey Rd, near the 1100 block.
RCMP officers who were nearby on an unrelated matter arrived within minutes and secured the area. Additional RCMP officers, with assistance from the Halifax Regional Police Emergency Response Team, were also quickly dispatched.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers located a 36-year-old Westphal man with gunshot wounds and immediately began first aid. The man was later transported to hospital by EHS where he was pronounced deceased.
The death is being investigated as a homicide.
At this time, there’s no information to suggest that this incident was the result of a random act.
Information and evidence gathered indicates that multiple shots were fired.
The investigation is being led by Homicide Investigations in the Special Investigations Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division and is being assisted by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service, RCMP Forensic Identification Services and RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment.
