Police lay charges in hit and run incidents

Police have charged three people in relation to two hit and run incidents that occurred in Dartmouth and Halifax on the weekend.

On March 16 at approximately 1:20 a.m. officers responded to a report of a vehicle that had struck gravestones in a cemetery on Victoria Road in Dartmouth. The plate from the suspect vehicle had been reported as stolen.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle a short time late near Richmond Street in Halifax. The driver refused to stop the vehicle and continued driving. Out of concern for public safety, officers did not pursue the vehicle.

At approximately 2:25 a.m. officers located the vehicle abandoned on North Park Street in Halifax where the suspects had struck a parked vehicle before fleeing on foot. Both the vehicle and the plate on the vehicle had been reported stolen. Officers arrested three suspects in the area a short time later without further incident.

Kyle Gordon Joseph Buffett, 20, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over$5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under$5,000
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance
  • Operation of a conveyance while prohibited (x2)
  • Failure to stop after an accident
  • Operation of a conveyance while impaired
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand for testing
  • Fail to comply with conditions of a probation order (x5)

Jayden Edward Stephen Carvery, 19, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Carvery was also arrested in relation to an outstanding warrant for his arrest for theft of a motor vehicle and trespass by night.

A 15-year-old youth was also charged and released with one count of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
