The Nova Scotia RCMP, assisted by the Prince Edward Island RCMP, charge a man with Stunting and Flight From Police
Nova Scotia RCMP Northwest Traffic Services assisted by Queens and Prince District RCMP, in Prince Edward Island, charged a man with Stunting and Flight From Police following an incident in Oxford Junction.
On December 3, 2023, at approximately 2:40 p.m., Nova Scotia RCMP Northwest Traffic Services were conducting traffic enforcement on Hwy. 104, when a Dodge Charger was observed on radar travelling at 186 km/h in a 110 km/h zone. A traffic stop was completed on the vehicle and the lone occupant was identified. During the traffic stop the driver fled from the officer. In the interest of public safety, a pursuit was not initiated.
RCMP officers quickly notified the New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island RCMP of the vehicle heading in their direction.
Around 3:00 p.m., a complaint was received by the New Brunswick RCMP about a vehicle travelling at an excessive rate of speed. The vehicle involved was the same white Dodge Charger previously stopped in Nova Scotia. Attempts were made by the New Brunswick RCMP to locate the vehicle.
Around 4:00 p.m., the vehicle was then observed by Prince Edward Island RCMP officers. A high risk traffic stop was completed by officers of Queens and Prince District RCMP on Capital Dr. in Charlottetown where the suspect was safely arrested.
The driver, a 25-year-old man from Charlottetown, PEI, was charged with Stunting and Flight From Police. His vehicle was towed and his license suspended. He was later released and will appear in Amherst Provincial Court on February 12, 2024.
Stunting in Nova Scotia carries a fine of $2,422.50 for first time offenders and results in an immediate 7-day driver’s license suspension.
