Nova Scotia RCMP launch online crime reporting system for non-emergency incidents
The RCMP has launched online crime reporting for reports of certain non-emergency incidents in areas of the province served by the RCMP.
“Online crime reporting is a convenient way to report certain non-emergency incidents from the comfort of your own home,” says Glen Byrne, RCMP Operational Support and Communications Centre. “It will also help reduce non-emergency calls to our operational communications centre.”
Nova Scotians within areas of RCMP jurisdiction (excluding Halifax) can now report the following incidents online:
- Mischief/damage to property or vehicle (under $5,000)
- Hit-and-run of an unoccupied vehicle/property (under $5,000)
- Theft under $5,000 (including bicycles and theft from vehicles)
- Lost property (including licence plates and registration tags)
After submitting an online crime report, you will receive an email confirmation with an incident number, and an officer will follow up with you within five business days.
“This change will increase our resource capacity so that we can provide enhanced support to the communities we serve. Online crime reporting is another step towards modernizing our police service,” says C/Supt. Sue Black.
The online crime reporting system can be accessed through the Nova Scotia RCMP website. For more information, please visit: https://report.rcmp.ca/novascotia.
If you require immediate assistance, please call 911, your local RCMP police detachment or the police service of jurisdiction in your area. The RCMP does not accept reports of crime via e-mail or social media.
Note: Halifax District RCMP, in partnership with Halifax Regional Police, have a unique online crime reporting tool for residents within the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). Residents of the Halifax region can report certain non-emergency incidents online via the HRM website.
