ECCC-Canadian Hurricane Center Update

CHC continues to watch ????Lee and TS Margot and have issued a preliminary information statement on Lee. While Margot is not expected to produce major impacts, Lee could affect the weather in Eastern Canada this weekend.

CHC Key Messages

???? Lee has maintained its strength over the last several hours and remains a category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 195 km/h
???? Its intensity is expected to fluctuate both up and down over the next day or so before some more sustained weakening begins by Wednesday
???? The storm is currently located about 2400 km south of Halifax and continues to move slowly northwestward
???? While Lee is currently moving slowly, it is still expected to make a turn towards the north and speed up by mid-week this week and enter our response zone late Friday
???? Lee could then impact weather in Eastern Canada on the weekend as it approaches as a category 1 hurricane or strong tropical storm
???? Some heavy surf from Lee is expected to reach the Atlantic Coast of Nova Scotia later this week
???? Also, heavy rainfall late this week is possible in some areas well ahead of the tropical cyclone
???? Although it is still early to focus on other specific impacts in Eastern Canada, it is never too early to prepare for significant weather events
