The Province is investing nearly $14.5 million to help community groups, municipalities and not-for-profit organizations develop and improve recreation infrastructure so Nova Scotians can stay healthy and active.

The Barrington Recreation Centre in Shelburne County is receiving $6 million to replace the existing facility with a new centre connected to the arena that will include an indoor track and spaces for community use.

“Recreational facilities play a significant role in strengthening our communities and bringing people together to be active,” said Nolan Young, MLA for Shelburne, on behalf of Pat Dunn, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. “Investing in the Barrington Recreation Centre will provide the community with upgraded infrastructure for recreational programming for many more years.”

A state-of-the-art track facility to be built at École secondaire de Par-en-Bas in Tusket, Yarmouth County will receive $2 million and will host school track and field events, as well as community events, drawing people from along the South Shore.

This facility is at the heart of our recreation complex and is an important piece of infrastructure for our community. Council and staff, with much consultation and input from the community, have produced a design that is more accessible, inclusive and energy efficient – ensuring all our residents will be able to continue to enjoy health and social benefits for years to come.”

“The municipality strongly supports the wellness and active living of our residents. This track and field upgrade will allow for more organizations to access barrier-free, a state-of-the-art facility. We couldn’t be more excited for our community.”
