Large crowds are expected in downtown Halifax today as Canada plays for gold at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Ice Hockey Championships

Halifax Regional Police reminds everyone to enjoy the game safely.

Our officers will be present to assist with traffic control at various locations to help keep you safe. Please plan ahead and know that there can still be delays. Here are some tips to help you and your loved ones be safe.

To ensure you’re familiar with event venues, locations and amenities, check the event’s website in advance. When possible, utilize public transportation. Tournament draws large crowds & may cause heavy traffic and parking downtown may be difficult.

Under no circumstances should you drive impaired. Call a cab, arrange a designated driver or take public transit. Take every step you can to get to your destination safe.

Remember it’s easy for little ones to become lost in large crowds. Always accompany young children to public washrooms and concession stands. Identify a meeting place in case you get separated. Have fun and stay safe!
