High-risk traffic stop results in multiple charges

Bridgewater Police Service, RCMP, and Criminal Intelligence Services Nova Scotia conducted a targeted high-risk traffic stop on Highway 103 east of Exit 13 at approximately 11 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2022.

For public safety reasons, Highway 103 was temporarily closed in both directions to initiate the stop and remove the individuals from the vehicle.

Three individuals from Liverpool were arrested in relation to firearms offences as a result of the stop and have subsequently been charged as follows:

Matthew Jordan Corkum, 30 years old, is charged with:

– Nine charges of possession of a weapon contrary to Section 88 of the Criminal Code of Canada)
– Possession of a firearm without being the holder of the license (Section 91.1)
– Knowingly being in possession of a firearm without being the holder of the license (Section 92.2)
– Occupying a vehicle knowingly in which there was a firearm contrary to Section 94 of the Criminal Code of Canada
– Two charges of transportation of a firearm in a careless manner (Section 86.1)
– Possession of a firearm on which the serial number had been defaced (Section 108.1(b))
– Two charges of possession of a firearm while prohibited from doing so (Section 117.01(1)) in violation of a lifetime firearms prohibition order, which stemmed from multiple previous firearms offence convictions in 2011 and 2018

Amanda Nowell Chase, 35 years old, is charged with:

– Nine charges of possession of a weapon contrary to Section 88 of the Criminal Code of Canada)
– Possession of a firearm without being the holder of the license (Section 91.1)
– Knowingly being in possession of a firearm without being the holder of the license (Section 92.2)
– Occupying a vehicle knowingly in which there was a firearm contrary to Section 94 of the Criminal Code of Canada
– Two charges of transportation of a firearm in a careless manner (Section 86.1)
– Possession of a firearm on which the serial number had been defaced (Section 108.1(b))
– Failure to comply with a condition of an undertaking (Section 145.4)

Dillon Randy Proepper, 22 years old, is charged with:

– Nine charges of possession of a dangerous weapon contrary to Section 88 of the Criminal Code of Canada)
– Possession of a firearm without being the holder of the license (Section 91.1)
– Knowingly being in possession of a firearm without being the holder of the license (Section 92.2)
– Occupying a vehicle knowingly in which there was a firearm contrary to Section 94 of the Criminal Code of Canada
– Two charges of transportation of a firearm in a careless manner (Section 86.1)
– Possession of a firearm on which the serial number had been defaced (Section 108.1(b))

Police seized a variety of prohibited and dangerous weapons during the stop, including a loaded firearm and extra ammunition. Those facing charges are scheduled to appear at the Bridgewater Provincial Courthouse at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2022.
