Road Re-Opening – Intersection of Barrington and Cornwallis streets

Location: Intersection of Barrington and Cornwallis streets (see attached map)

Date: Effective Wednesday, December 7

Time: 24/7

Work details: A new detour road will be opened in conjunction with the re-opening of the intersection of Barrington and Cornwallis streets. This is in support of the Cogswell District project.

Traffic Impacts

Motorists: Lanes travelling north and south through the Barrington and Cornwallis street intersection will reopen continuing onto a new detour road connecting Barrington Street to Upper Water Street. Upper Water Street between Barrington Street and Valour Way will be permanently closed.​ Access to Department of Defence, HMCS Scotian and the Halifax Water Wastewater Treatment Plant will be off the new detour road connecting at Upper Water Street. Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use alternative routes.

Transit: The following transit routes will be on detour: 1, 2, 5, 10, 29, 41, 84, 93, 158, 159, 161, 165,168A,168B,182,183,185,186, 370.

Pedestrians: Sidewalks will be impacted in the area. A multi-use path connecting the Barrington Greenway to the new detour road will be in place providing pedestrian access to Upper Water Street. Signage will be in place.

Cyclists: A multi-use path connecting the Barrington Greenway to the detour road will be in place providing cyclists access to Upper Water Street. Signage will be in place.
