Municipal service level adjustments – Monday September 19, 2022
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following municipal program and service level adjustments as a result of the provincial holiday in honour of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral service.
Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours
Municipal solid waste collection service will continue as normal on Monday, Sept. 19. Residents are asked to place materials curbside prior to 7 a.m. on collection day in order to ensure pickup, ensuring they are contained and secured from wildlife until pickup.
The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the Halifax recycling facility and municipal composting facilities will be open on Monday, Sept. 19.
The Household Special Waste Depot at 20 Horseshoe Lake Drive will be open on Saturday, Sept. 17. Additionally, a mobile Household Special Waste event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, at Horizon Community School, 168 Redoubt Way, Eastern Passage.

Halifax Transit
Halifax Transit will be running regular, weekday service on Monday, Sept. 19.
As a reminder, based on current crew availability, Alderney Ferry service will continue to be reduced to 30-minute service from 2 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., until further notice. For a list of service disruptions, click here.
Customer Contact Centres
The 311 Contact Centre will be operating on regular hours on Monday, Sept. 19, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Alderney Gate, Bayers Road and Musquodoboit Harbour Customer Service Centres that provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed on Monday, Sept. 19, and will reopen for regular business hours on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Parking
Municipal on-street, paid parking spots will be free on Monday, Sept. 19. Motorists are reminded to abide by other posted signage, including no stopping, accessible parking spaces and no parking zones.
Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services Halifax Transit
The Emera Oval will be open on Monday, Sept. 19. Residents are reminded the Emera Oval has transitioned to Fall hours, with equipment lending open from noon until 8 p.m., weather permitting. A detailed schedule can be found here.
Sackville Sports Stadium will be open for public swims and skates (as scheduled), rentals and fitness centre. All drop in and registered programs will be cancelled. A detailed schedule can be found here.
Many other municipally-operated recreation facilities will be closed on Monday, Sept. 19. Residents are advised to call ahead to their respective facility for operating hours and program information. Contact information for municipally-operated facilities is online.
Commemorative Events
Municipal flags will remain at half-mast until Monday, Sept. 19.
The Halifax Public Gardens front gate will be lit in royal blue in honour of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. until Monday, Sept. 19. Royal blue lights will also be shining on Halifax City Hall until the evening of Sunday, Sept. 18.
A provincial multi-faith memorial service will be held at the Cathedral Church of All Saints, 1330 Cathedral Lane, Halifax on Monday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. The service is open to the public. Guests are asked to be seated by 1:30 p.m.
