Windsor Woman Charged After 5 Animals Found in Distress

Kendra Mclellan, 27, from Windsor, has been charged with five counts of permitting an animal to be in distress, contrary to section 26 (2) of the Animal Protection Act of Nova Scotia.

On July 6, 2022, the Nova Scotia SPCA received a complaint of an abandoned dog in serious medical distress. The SPCA Enforcement team seized the dog and launched a detailed investigation. On July 11, 2022, a search warrant was executed at a residence in Newport, Nova Scotia, where four additional dogs were in distress. The four dogs were subsequently seized.

Mclellan launched an appeal to retain custody of the dogs. On July 21, 2022 the Nova Scotia Animal Welfare Appeal Board upheld the seizure in favour of the Nova Scotia SPCA.

As a result of the SPCA’s investigation, charges were laid against the animals’ custodian. Mclellan is scheduled to appear in Windsor Provincial Court on September 6, 2022.
