General Intrests

Removal of trees in DeWolf Park due to Emerald Ash Borer

Beginning July 25, approximately 80 ash trees in DeWolf park will be removed due to infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer beetle, an invasive species.

Emerald Ash Borer is a beetle that feeds on ash tree species and is native to northeastern Asia. Once a tree is infested with the beetle larvae, the tree declines quickly, typically experiencing total fatality within three years. The larvae kill the tree by preventing the transportation of nutrients to and from the leaves.

The municipality will replant the removed trees one-for-one with an alternative species that is resistant to Emerald Ash Borer. Replanting will occur throughout the course of the seasonal tree planting program.

The removals are expected to take several weeks and traffic impacts are expected in the area to accommodate this work.
