Municipal service level adjustments for the Heritage Day weekend
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following municipal program and service level adjustments for the Heritage Day weekend.
Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours:
There will be no garbage, organics or recyclables collection services on Monday, Feb. 21. Curbside collection normally scheduled for Monday, Feb. 21, will occur instead on the preceding Saturday, Feb. 19. Residents are reminded that collection services can begin as early as 7 a.m. To ensure collection, materials may be placed curbside the evening prior to collection day.
The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility and Municipal Recycling Plant will be closed on Monday, Feb. 21, but will be open during regular operating hours on Saturday, Feb. 19.
The Household Special Waste Depot in Bayers Lake will be closed on Saturday, Feb. 19, and will re-open for regular operating hours on Saturday, Feb. 26.

Halifax Transit Bus & Ferry Services
Halifax Transit buses will be operating on holiday service on Monday, Feb. 21.
The Alderney Ferry service will run at half-hour frequency on Monday, Feb. 21 – the first crossing will depart the Alderney terminal at 7:30 a.m. and the final crossing will depart the Halifax terminal at 11:45 p.m. There will be no Woodside ferry service on Monday, Feb. 21.

Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services:
Many recreation facilities will be closed on Monday, Feb. 21. Residents are advised to call ahead to their respective facility for operating hours and program information. Contact information for municipally operated facilities can be found online.
Sackville Sports Stadium will be open regular hours on Monday, Feb. 21 with regularly scheduled activities.
The Emera Oval will be open on Monday, Feb. 21, weather and ice conditions permitting. A reminder that the Emera Oval is operating with a reduced capacity and access will be provided on a first come first serve basis until the maximum capacity has been reached. Residents must show full proof of COVID-19 vaccination and identification, practice physical distancing, as well as wear a mask at all times including on the ice and in the Oval Pavilion. Customer Contact Centres
The 311 Contact Centre will be operating regular hours on Monday, Feb. 21 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The 311 Contact Centre can be reached either by phone or email at contactus@311.halifax.ca.
The three in-person Customer Service Centres will be closed on Monday, Feb. 21. and will reopen for regular business hours on Tuesday Feb. 22. For more information, click here.
The Planning & Development counter at the municipal Customer Service Centre, located at 7071 Bayers Road, will be closed on Monday, Feb. 21. Residents are reminded that they may apply for permits online at any time.
Parking
On-street parking will be free on Monday, Feb. 21. However, motorists must abide by other posted signage, such as accessible parking, fire hydrants and no-stopping. Residents are reminded that parking is free on weekdays after 6 p.m., and on weekends and holidays. For more information on parking, click here.
A reminder that the winter parking ban is in effect annually from December 15 to March 31. However, vehicles can be towed at any time, any day of the year, if they are interfering with snow-clearing operations, as per Section 139 of the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act.

Heritage Day Virtual Ceremony

Lt.-Gov. Arthur J. LeBlanc, Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage Minister Pat Dunn and Acadian Affairs and Francophonie Minister Colton LeBlanc will participate in a virtual Heritage Day 2022 ceremony.
