In recent days we have noticed an increase in the number of people reporting they have received an automated phone call from a credit card company advising of suspicious activity on their credit card
The call directs the person to press # 1 to hear more or speak to a representative, the “ representative” asks for your credit card number.
We want to remind the public that this is a scam and to hang up should you receive this call.
Truro Police Service are reminding the public to protect themselves against frauds in the following ways:
• Do not send money, gift cards, Bitcoin or anything else of value to someone you’ve never met in-person.
• Do not give your personal banking information to anyone over the phone.
• If you have a feeling that something is not right, it is best to trust your instinct and stop communicating with that person.
• Scammers can be very persistent and convincing. Being defrauded is never the victim’s fault. If you have been defrauded, you are not alone. Please report it to your local police.
