Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Montreal, with the ship’s company of nearly 240, set sail for a deployment to the Mediterranean and Black Sea as part of Standing NATO Maritime Group Two (SNMG2) on Operation REASSURANCE, in support of NATO assurance and deterrence measures in Central and Eastern Europe.

This is HMCS Montreal’s first deployment on Operation REASSURANCE, replacing HMCS Fredericton, which arrived back home to Halifax on December 17, 2021.

HMCS Montreal’s participation on Operation REASSURANCE continues to work alongside our global allies to strengthen security, stability and international cooperation efforts throughout the region.

HMCS Montreal will deploy with a CH-148 Cyclone helicopter from 12 Wing Shearwater, making it the seventh Cyclone to conduct flight operations as part of Op REASSURANCE.

Unlike previous departure ceremonies, due to COVID-19 restrictions and to ensure everyone can gather safely, there will be limited personnel on the jetty. Therefore, families were not present on the jetty but instead viewed the ship’s departure as it sails past the Halifax waterfront.
