Councillor Pam Lovelace elected Deputy Mayor
District 13 Councillor Pam Lovelace was elected today by her fellow Councillors to serve for the next year as Deputy Mayor for the Halifax Regional Municipality.
The new Deputy Mayor takes over from Deputy Mayor Tim Outhit, who held the position for the past 12 months.
“I am truly honoured by the trust my Council colleagues have placed in me. As a new Regional Councillor, I am humbled by Council’s confidence in my ability to serve Halifax as the new Deputy Mayor for the upcoming year,” Lovelace said.
“As our municipality balances the unprecedented growth we are experiencing with the many challenges we face including post-COVID economic recovery and climate change, I am committed to increasing communications with our citizens, building stronger more resilient communities, and working with all stakeholders to resolve challenges and seize opportunities together,” Deputy Mayor Lovelace said.
Deputy Mayor Lovelace has been a member of Regional Council since 2020, following a twenty-year career in communications and project management.
After graduating from Mount Saint Vincent University with a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree and Certificate in Business Administration, she worked for CBC Maritimes in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick producing television and online programming. Lovelace has also worked in various communications and project management roles with federal, provincial, and municipal governments.
Following her first run for Halifax Council in 2016, she completed a master’s degree in adult education and worked for Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Health and has also worked as an adjunct professor at Mount Saint Vincent University.
Deputy Mayor Lovelace has volunteered with many groups throughout Atlantic Canada, including Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia, Women in Film & Television, Equal Voice Canada, St Margaret’s Bay Food Bank, 250 Vimy Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, Hammonds Plains-Lucasville Memorial Association, Friends of Blue Mountain Birch Cove Lakes, and more.
She is the recipient of Volunteer of the Year awards from both Halifax and the Province of Nova Scotia, among other recognition, including the Canada 150 Sesquicentennial Pin and Minister of Veteran Affairs Commendation. In 2020, Lovelace was awarded national certification in Agile Project Management.
Lovelace currently serves on many municipal committees, boards, and commissions, and continues to look for opportunities to make positive contributions as an elected official. She lives in Hammonds Plains with her husband David and their children Ava and Callum.
