Nova Scotia Health resumes referrals for Medical Assistance in Dying
Nova Scotia Health would like to share that we will be able to accept new Medical Assistance in Dying referrals as of Wednesday October 20, 2021. The organization had placed a temporary hold on referrals due to capacity issues but is able to resume service one week earlier than planned.
The temporary pause in service was necessary to ensure that people already awaiting an assessment could be seen in a timely manner. We appreciate the stress this delay may have caused for patients, families, and others involved in their care. We are pleased to announce that several new assessors have come forward, and that we are in the process of hiring a new full-time nurse practitioner to support the program.
“We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the clinicians from across the province who went above and beyond to help in the past few weeks. Our program is always looking for new clinicians to become involved in MAID care,” says Dr. Gord Gubitz, Medical Director of Medical Assistance in Dying.
“For information, training, and support please reach out to the Medical Assistance in Dying Access and Resource Team at 902-491-5892.”
