Results from water samples collected today continue to show no harmful algal toxins at the Collins Park Water Supply Plant on Fletchers Lake. Halifax Water customers in this area can continue to use their tap water normally.

Any change in water quality will be communicated to customers as soon as possible.

Blue-Green Algae Being Monitored on Fletchers Lake

A blue-green algae bloom has been detected in the tributary that feeds water to Fletchers Lake in the communities of Wellington and Fletchers Lake, Nova Scotia.

Water sample results obtained today showed no harmful algal toxins at the Collins Park Water Supply Plant on Fletchers Lake. Halifax Water customers in this area can continue to use their tap water normally. The Collins Park Water Supply Plant provides drinking water to approximately 85 properties in the communities of Wellington and Fletchers Lake, Nova Scotia.

As a precaution, we are currently completing additional testing. Results are expected this evening. Any change in water quality will be communicated to customers as soon as possible.

This situation is being closely monitored by Halifax Water, Nova Scotia Environment & Climate Change (NSECC) and the Nova Scotia Medical Officer of Health (NSMOH). Customers’ health and safety remain the top priority.

What area is served by the Collins Park Water Supply Plant?

The Collins Park Water Supply Plant provides water to properties on Hwy #2, Collins Drive, Anthony Drive, Carlheath Drive, Jeffrey Lane, and Belmore Drive in​ Wellington, NS, and on Brook Street and Day Hollow Drive, in Fletchers Lake, NS.

Customers can visit halifaxwater.ca/watersource to find out if they receive water from the Collins Park Water Supply Plant on Fletchers Lake.

Residents on or near Fletchers Lake who do not receive water from Halifax Water, but are on a private well, or draw water directly from the lake, should seek guidance from NSECC, as they are the authority on private water supplies.
