Introducing Supportive Voting Locations

Elections Nova Scotia is committed to improving the electoral process for underserved communities and delivering fair and inclusive elections.

Elections Nova Scotia’s new IDEAS (inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility) strategy is focused on helping underserved voters to cast their ballot in the 42nd provincial general election. Our team of four Outreach Liaison Officers are working with our IDEAS community partners to offer three supportive voting locations for underserved voter communities.

The supportive voting locations provide an opportunity for underserved voters to feel welcome and comfortable when they come to cast their ballot. Supportive voting locations will operate as one-day community polls, hosted by IDEAs partner organizations, and staffed by our Liaison Officer team.

“CNIB is excited to host a supportive voting location for the 2024 provincial election,” says Shelley Adams RSW, Manager, Advocacy Atlantic Canada, CNIB. “Providing a space for people with sight loss to vote in an inclusive and accessible way is so important to us.”

Supportive voting will be offered at the following three voting locations:

The North Grove

6 Primrose St, Dartmouth B3A 4C5

Wednesday, November 13, 9 am – 6 pm

Co-hosted by The North Grove and Inclusion Nova Scotia

Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre

2021 Brunswick St. suite 209, Halifax B3K 2Y5

Friday, November 15, 9 am – 6 pm

Hosted by the Confederacy of the Mainland Mi’Kmaq

Canadian National Institute for the Blind

6136 Almon St, Halifax B3K 1T8

Monday, November 18, 9 am – 6 pm

Hosted by CNIB

The Liaison Officer team has established a contact for IDEAS concerns to provide more personal service to underserved voters. Voters can share their voting experiences with the Liaison Officer team directly by emailing IDEAS@electionsnovascotia.ca.

The Liaison Officer team has also implemented an exit survey to gather feedback on voter experience at all early voting locations. Voters are encouraged to take time to complete the survey and share their experience and ideas so Elections Nova Scotia can continually improve on our processes.

Voters in Nova Scotia that have questions about the provincial general election can call 1-800-565-1504.
