Prince Andrew High – MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL RENAMING COMMITTEE

After consulting with students, families, staff, alumni, our School Advisory Council (SAC) and our greater school community, we are resuming the process of changing the name of Prince Andrew High School. It is our intention to have a new name officially in place for the start of the 2022-23 school year.

What’s in a name?

The name of a school should be reflective of our school community and uphold our values as a safe and inclusive learning space for all. Our hope is to continue to build our identity as a positive, supportive and respectful community, with a name to match. We have heard from many of you who feel the same way.

Thank you to those who shared their thoughts. We took great care in reading, analyzing and discussing the many perspectives shared in our Thought Exchange. We are excited to take this next step.

What’s next?

We have created a 6 person School Renaming Committee that includes student and staff representatives, SAC members and others from the community. In the coming weeks, this committee will invite all community members (with or without direct affiliation to our school) to submit name suggestions.

The committee will review and evaluate the submissions and will then hold a student vote. We’ll then forward the top three recommendations to the Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) for final approval. To learn more about the school naming or renaming policy, click here.

We’re ready and excited to take this next step. Please stay tuned for more information in the near future. We value your participation in this important process.

With thanks,
Craig Campbell Principal PAHS
